Looking for a Tutor?

A personalized approach means every child

can grow in the knowledge, understanding,

and skills needed for future success.

Hi, I'm Kathryn

Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the Internet!

I work with students and their families to help them realize their academic potential and get the most that they can out of their school experiences.

I’ve worked with students of all ages for the past 25 years as a classroom teacher, a private tutor, a homeschool mom. Sometimes all three at the same time! I’ve worked with early elementary kiddos and high schoolers and everything in between.

When I’m not teaching or tutoring, I can be found at my other job(s): Home Manager and Mother of Teenagers. Parenting is a crazy, wild ride, and I just might have it all figured out by the time they move out!

In my spare time I like to:

  • Cook tasty food for my friends and family. I make a pretty delicious plate of carnitas! The exact recipe is a family secret, but you can find a similar recipe here.

  • Play with succulents. I love to create arrangements in unexpected containers and take delight in watching the baby succulents grow up!

  • Get comfy on the couch with a good novel. A recent favorite was The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson.

  • Memorize scripture. My Christian faith is central to my life, and I've started memorizing chapters of the Bible. These passages keep me hopeful in the midst of the inevitable struggles of life.

Our family recently celebrated my son’s graduation from high school after a 13-year adventure of homeschooling. Whew! With a daughter still in high school, I’m now spending time with her as she follows her divergent interests of baking and snakes. She has adopted a snake. It only eats live rats. I’ll be honest: I much prefer helping her with recipes.

Other random facts about me:

  • I think it’s fun to diagram sentences.

  • I work math problems to relax. Seriously. It helps take my mind off the stresses of everyday life, and I know that, in math, there’s always a right answer.

  • I try but never quite feel caught up on the dishes and laundry and vacuuming and dusting. Maybe it's a character flaw; maybe it's a sign that my priorities lie elsewhere. Maybe it's a little bit of both!

I know what it’s like to live in the real world of managing the details of life while helping the kids thrive with their schoolwork. If you’re ready for some help with the academic side of things, let’s chat soon!
